Here is an easy idea... add a pocket to the spine of your cover. Sew two pieces of fabric, right sides together, that will fit down the spine about an inch from the top. Leave a few inches of space when sewing to turn the fabric right side out. Turn the fabric right side out and make sure the corners are nice and pushed out. Fold raw edges under and sew opening closed. Now, pin in place on cover and sew around three sides- NOT the top. This will give you a cute pocket for pens, etc.
